Re: David Spring M. Ed. to run for State Superintendent of Public Instruction Race

North Bend - David Spring announced today that he is running for Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Below is a brief statement on why he is running:

"Like most parents and teachers, I have waited patiently year after year for politicians in Olympia to comply with their Constitutional Paramount Duty to fully fund our public schools. But instead, yet another legislative session has come to an end, and all we got from Olympia was another fake committee. We, parents and teachers, are deeply disappointed that politicians in Olympia have once again decided to kick the can down the road for another year. We are fed up with empty promises and double talk. Our kids do not need another committee. They need lower class sizes. Our kids do not need more excuses. They need more teachers.

If other states can find a way to fund their public schools, why can't we? The simple fact is that Olympia politicians are so corrupt that they have turned their backs on one million students in order to protect a monstrous, outrageous and illegal $36 billion per year in tax breaks for billionaires and wealthy corporations. The simple fact is that Washington state has the most unfair tax system in the nation. Ever increasing tax breaks for the rich not only rob our kids and our schools, they make our tax system even more unfair every year. We need to recognize thatthe current group of politicians in Olympia are NEVER going to fund our public schools.

As a parent and a teacher, I say the time for waiting for politicians in Olympia to fund our schools is over. If the corrupt politicians in Olympia will not act to restore school funding by ending excessive tax breaks for wealthy corporations, then it is time we take the matter into our own hands and act to provide our kids with the education they need and deserve. That is why I have decided to run for Superintendent of Public Instruction. I have spent 20 years teaching courses in problem solving at Bellevue College. Parents and teachers can count on me to provide real solutions to the urgent problems our kids and schools are facing. I will not kick the can down the road! I will break the gridlock in Olympia and honor our State Constitutional Paramount Duty by going around the corrupt legislature and directly to the Supreme Court with a motion for the court to repeal these illegal tax breaks in order to immediately & fully fund our schools!"
